What You Should Know About Ketosis Before You Start the Keto Diet!
The keto diet is one of the two major diets that advocates consider as a miracle for long-term weight control and maintenance. DescriptionThe Ketogenic diet is a high-fiber, low-carbohydrate, adequate protein, fat-burning diet which in medical terminology is known as “Ketostix”. The diet causes the human body to burn fat rather than carbohydrates, resulting in weight loss. The main ingredient of Ketostix is yacon syrup, a simple sugar derived from raw nuts.
The other diet advocate is the South Beach diet, which is based on low-glycemic carbohydrates. It advocates the consumption of a limited number of carbs (no more than 30g) for each meal and snack. As you would guess, the South Beach Diet and Ketostix are polar opposites in their fundamental approach to losing weight. However, both diets have a number of common ideas and principles underlying them, particularly the importance of maintaining your calorie intake within limits and being mindful of how many carbs you take in.
The aim of the South Beach Diet is to restrict carbohydrates in the form of breads, cereals, pasta and potatoes while keeping total calorie intake low. The aim of the keto diet is to limit proteins, particularly amino acids, to less than about 1g/day. The ketone diet (also called the ketostix diet) is based on eating organic meat and limiting your consumption of dairy products. As you may imagine, both of these diets have some supporters and critics. Although I personally support both methods, there are compelling reasons why the ketogenic diet and the Keto diet are not the same as Atkins or lacto-ovo diets.
The major difference between the Keto Diet and Atkins is that the goal is to permanently eliminate carbs from your diet, i.e., you won’t be eating bread, pasta, potatoes and rice any more. The other difference between the two diets is that the keto diet is designed for people who want to lose weight in a healthy manner. You’re not trying to gain muscle mass, you’re trying to lose fat. Many people who go on a keto diet do so because they want to get in shape. And, they can probably achieve this goal with the other types of diets, but since they need to eliminate carbs completely, the keto diet is clearly the better way to go.
So, is the keto diet the better way to go? For people who are able to stick to the diet for the long term, yes. However, it’s important to understand that the keto diet is not suitable for everyone: if you’re a diabetic, if you have high blood pressure, if you suffer from kidney disease, if you have a serious heart condition or you are suffering from a mental disorder, please stay away from the ketogenic diet. People with hypoglycemia should also avoid the ketogenic diet, but since most people with hypoglycemia are already starting to eat a healthy diet anyway, this shouldn’t be a problem.
Besides people with diabetes, the keto diet is also great for people who are trying to lose some muscle mass. As long as you don’t severely abuse your body’s metabolism by exceeding your daily caloric allowance, you will be fine on the keto diet. Of course, if you have any health problems, please speak with your doctor before starting the diet. The keto diet is not recommended for anyone with kidney disease, brain damage, tumors, HIV, AIDS or cancer, as well as anyone who has eaten too much carbohydrate in the past. The risks of ketosis are greatly increased in these people, so please make sure that you take care of yourself before starting any diet plan.
Also, there are two main types of the Ketogenic Diet: The first is the classical type of diet, which increases your intake of both fats and carbs. The second is called the minimal carb diet, because your body will start to eliminate carbs after a certain amount of time on the ketosis diet. If you stick with it, you will be able to keep most of your muscles as lean as possible. Your fat cells will still contain a number of carbs, so they will still be used for energy. So you will not be losing any muscle mass, but the weight loss is the result of a higher metabolism rate than normal. In addition, keto diets have been shown to improve the insulin sensitivity of the body, which means that you can get rid of some of the excess glucose in the blood by burning up excess carbs.
So there are many different benefits that are associated with the keto diet. People have lost weight, increased their muscle mass, improved their insulin sensitivity, and even enjoyed some health benefits such as lower cholesterol. However, please remember that ketosis is only a temporary state, and that you should only stay on the diet for a maximum of three weeks at one time. After that time, you should return to your regular eating habits and all of those carbohydrates that you had removed will be readily available to you!
