Can You Eat Oatmeal on a Keto Diet?

Have you ever heard of can you eat oatmeal on a keto diet? This article is about the most common question asked by people who are about to start their first ketosis diet. Most people would say “no” but some will say “yes”. It all depends on your body and what you are trying to accomplish.

Ketosis is the process of burning fat for energy. For this process to occur, your body must be able to break down carbohydrates (comparable to glucose) into smaller pieces which it can utilize for energy. Carbohydrates are the body’s primary source of fuel when it needs to do physical activities. Therefore, losing or reducing the amount of carbohydrates you take in during a day can have a dramatic effect on your keto diet results. For the purpose of our keto diet article we are only discussing foods that are possible to eat while on this diet. Other than that, any carb is good.

So, can you eat oatmeal on a keto diet? Yes, you can! You see, one of the things that make up a low carb diet is limiting carbohydrate intake. You can go into great detail in your diet article about how to design a diet plan specifically for a low carb lifestyle. However, for the purposes of this article, I am only going to discuss the effects of a low carb diet on our bodies.

Can you eat oatmeal on a keto diet? Yes, you can. Can you eat oatmeal in the form of regular oatmeal, waffles, pancakes, doughnuts, donuts or granola bars? You can, but the best sources of healthy carbohydrates are: brown rice, wild rice, whole-grain bread, pasta (e.g. elbow macaroni and potato), rice cakes, popcorn, carrots, potatoes, and oatmeal.

What about meat and dairy products? Yes, they can be eaten in moderation. Some people have said that low carb diet foods should in fact be avoided at all costs. This is due to the large amount of fat contained in meats and dairy products, which can clog your arteries and increase your risk of developing high blood pressure. You do want to get as much protein and carbohydrates into your diet as possible though, so do not completely eliminate these foods from your list of diet foods.

What about fruits and vegetables? Fruits and vegetables can play an important role in your keto diet. Many of these items contain good amounts of carbohydrates, but not nearly as much as you will find in lean meats and dairy products. So, it is OK to consume a bit more fruit and vegetables than what you might find in a typical American diet. This is a healthy addition to your diet and one that should be included no matter which type of diet you are on at the time.

So, can you eat oatmeal on a keto diet? The short answer is yes. As long as you limit your consumption of other carb sources, such as pasta and breads, you should be fine. Be sure to use some low carb substitutes for some of your favorite foods, too, such as oatmeal.

Of course, like anything else, there are some rules and exceptions to this question. Can you eat oatmeal on a low carb diet? In general, yes, you can. But there are some things you need to watch out for. It is important to be aware of the carbs that you take in, especially those that come from processed forms. Those kinds of carbs can derail your efforts to lose weight if they are taken in excessive amounts, so be sure to check the labels of your diet foods for the carb content before eating them.
